NJ Electrical Contractors Vetter Electric

Choosing NJ electrical contractors is an important part of your home and office safety. You cannot judge an electrician by the price he quotes you–you need an established contractor with all the requirements to protect you, your family, and your employees.

The NJECA (New Jersey Electrical Contractors Association), established in 1962 to support electricians and protect consumers, strongly recommends you find NJ electrical contractors that meets the “4 Qualifications”:

  • Board-licensed: These contractors are regulated by the NJECA, who only register qualified journeymen electricians familiar with state codes
  • Familiar with new electrical products, fire safety, current electrical safety issues from the CSPC, and energy conservation tips
  • Bonded and insured in the state of New Jersey. If you fail to make sure of this point, any injuries or damage that occur on your property may be your liability
  • Has a long history in the electrician trade. During the housing boom of the late 1990s and early 2000s, many new electricians sprung up out of nowhere lacking certifications and job experience. Many of those electricians have long since abandoned the trade after realizing the risks and disappointing customers, but some still remain out there

How to Make Sure Your NJ Electrical Contractors Do the Right Work at the Right Price

Of course, choosing the right NJ electrical contractors for your NJ electrical services needs is only the first step. You must also fully evaluate the project and proceed with careful planning. Follow the “9-step Electrical Contractor Selection Process”:

  1. Make a budget for how much you can spend for your electrical work. The only time you should stray from this budget is when an urgent safety issue is threatening your family or office. Don’t let an electrician talk you into performing work that exceeds your budget or not absolutely necessary.
  2. Write down all the electrical work you want done, line by line, on a sheet of paper. Do you require installations, upgrades, or repair?
  3. Make sure you include all work that can be quickly completed by the electrician while he’s in your home or office. Skilled electricians generally work by the hour, and like most laborers with high qualifications, incur and charge a cost just for coming out to you. Simple work for them can include extra wall socket installation, lighting repair, and breaker box checks.
  4. Talk to people you know who have had electrical work done in the past. Find out what challenges they faced and what they learned along the way.
  5. Call the electrician and ask him some questions. Find out his qualifications (as above), focusing in particular on his length of time in business. If he is qualified, ask him to bid on the job. Make sure he sees your full list of desired work.
  6. Ask the electrician for past customer references and contact them. Ask them if they were satisfied with the work, would recommend his services to others, and how the work is holding up.
  7. Choose an electrician and schedule work.
  8. Go over the written list of work with the electrician again and get a quote, payment terms, and work schedule in writing.
  9. After the work is done, make sure you go over the contract line by line and ensure the work was done to completion.
